Diabetes Exercise Class

Thursday, July 14, 2022 @ 3:15 PM - 4:15 PM
The Diabetes Exercise Program is scheduled every Tuesday and Thursday in our Rehabilitation Gym. There are two available sessions at 3:15 or 4:30.

This Diabetes exercise class is tailored to each participant’s physical capabilities.  There is approximately 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise and 30 minutes of strengthening exercises.  There is a cool down period that is designed to improve balance and flexibility.

The class is offered free of charge for 10 weeks.  There is a limited amount of space in the class and thus we will accept participants based on availability. The goal is for individuals to be ready to continue exercising independently after the 10 weeks.  For those who qualify, we require that they consent to participate in a clinical study that explores the benefits of exercise for individuals with diabetes.

The process for joining the program is as follows:

  1. Fill out the attached health history paperwork.
  2. The last page of the form has a place for the physician to sign consenting to participation.  Physicians consent is required for participation in the diabetes exercise program.
  3. Once the paperwork is complete and the M.D. consent obtained, a required initial interview/physical testing session is scheduled prior to starting the exercise program.   The purpose of the participant interview and testing is to help determine each individual’s exercise level.  The exercise program is designed based on the initial tests.
